Principles
Rheology is the study of flow and deformation of materials. Deformation and flow are referred to as strain or strain rate respectively, and indicate the distance over which a body moves under the influence of an external force, or stress. For this reason, rheology is also considered to be the study of stress-strain relationships in materials. A rheometer is a precision instrument that contains the material of interest in a geometric configuration, controls the environment around it, and applies and measures wide ranges of stress, strain, and strain rate.
Capabilities
- ARES-G2 Rheometer is a mechanical Spectrometer capable of subjecting a sample to: (1) An Oscillation strain deformation, (2) Steady shear strain deformation, Or Transient test, and (3) LAOS tests. To measures both viscosity and viscoelasticity of fluids, semi-solids and solid materials with the temperature range from -150 °C to 600 °C. With the help of different types of geometries, it provides information about the materials
- Viscosity: Function of shear rate or stress, time and temperature dependence
- Viscoelastic properties (Storage Modulus (G'), Loss Modulus (G''), Tan $\delta$with respect to time, temperature, frequency, and stress/strain.
- Transient responses (Relaxation modulus, Creep Compliances, Creep Recovery), and LAOS tests.
Applications
- Dispersions and Suspensions: Paints, Coatings, Ink, Drilling fluids, Cosmetics, Foods, Pharmaceuticals, Personal products such as Shampoos, Shower gels.... etc.
- Polymers: Polymer melts, polymer solutions, and polymer blends. Thermosetting polymers, nanocomposites, crude oil ...etc.
