About

The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1975, and seeks to provide distinguished education in Electrical Engineering, and contribute to the creation, development, and dissemination of knowledge. It also seeks to qualify human resources to achieve development goals, meet the needs of the society, and prepare a distinct manpower that meets the demands of the state’s development, while keeping pace with the requirements of the modern era through quality education and excellence in scientific research. The department also strives to meet the needs of the modern era by collaborating with scientific institutions.

Teaching is delivered by internationally qualified academics, who attain the highest standards of teaching and research. Students undergo intensive academic preparation and self-development via extensive scientific choices and opportunities. The department also offers training courses and programs in various scientific, cultural, and professional fields.

The department aims to prepare quality engineers who are able to assume the responsibilities of work life, and participate in engineering projects with the ability to keep pace with the latest developments and technological advances in the field of specialization. The department also provides integrated engineering sciences to arm the graduates in facing future challenges and developments.

The curriculum is designed to be inclusive of the theoretical and applied aspects of electrical engineering, and includes flexibility that allows the development of the student's personal interest and is in line with the ever-changing requirements of the State of Kuwait and the surrounding region. The program also includes general knowledge that enables it to play an effective role in a developed society. The curriculum has also been prepared in accordance with international academic standards and is periodically evaluated by specialized international accreditation bodies.

The Electrical Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission ABET until 2026.

EE Program Mission

The mission of the Electrical Engineering Program is:

To provide a quality and broad engineering education.

To conduct strong basic and applied research, to disseminate knowledge, and to contribute to advancement of science and technology.

To serve the industry, the profession, and the community at large through innovative solutions.

EE Program Vision

The vision of the program is to gain regional and international recognition for providing a quality engineering education, outstanding research programs and exceptional community service. In addition, it is envisioned that the graduates of the program will be successful in their professional careers and/or graduate studies, prepared for professional creativity and leadership, and lead productive lives that contribute to improvement of society.

Educational Objectives

The general objectives of the undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering at Kuwait University are related to the overall mission of the College and the University. In keeping with this mission, the Electrical Engineering Department is offering an educational program that is highly designed to meet internationally recognized standards and criteria.

The Program Educational Objectives are the expected accomplishments of graduates during the first several years following graduation. The EE Program has adopted the following educational objectives:

Graduates will successfully engage in careers in the broad range of electrical engineering areas to serve the needs of both private and public sectors.

Graduates will engage in continuous professional development activities, seek learning opportunities including graduate studies, and adapt to the rapid changes in work environment.

Graduates will contribute to the well-being of the society and environment through responsible practice of engineering profession.

Therefore, the Electrical Engineering program is designed to provide the student with a fundamental background in basic theoretical concepts and technological principles which constitute the foundations of modern electrical engineering and, at the same time, to give the student the opportunity to emphasize subject areas in which he/she has a particular interest. The curriculum requirements are flexible enough so that the student, with the assistance of a program advisor, should be able to achieve depth in one or more of the main specializations areas, i.e., Electronics, Power Engineering, Communications and Control Systems. In order to strengthen the design experience for the students, the EE curriculum includes a compulsory cornerstone design course EE 297 as well as a compulsory capstone design course EE 497.

Student Outcomes

The EE program graduates will have:

The Electrical Engineering Program shall provide the graduates with:

1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering. situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.

6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze, and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
